MEET EMILY:How did you get started with your health and fitness journey? I wanted to get fit and feel confident for my wedding in 2011 so I started doing hot yoga and weight watchers and lost 20 pounds which was great but I felt like I was still missing something which I now know is that powerful feeling you get from lifting weights and taking care of yourself through clean eats and some treats 😊! I eventually started my fitness account on Instagram and was so inspired by the empowering women I started following and that’s eventually how I stumbled onto your account! My first LG challenge was your Weight Training Plan and from then on, I have completed every LG plan and crave those lifting sessions!
What about weight training specifically do you love?The amazing feeling of empowerment and confidence post a tough sweat sesh… I’m talking to you LG leg day! 🙂 Those strong lady vibes carry me through so many obstacles in my daily grind, I’m so much stronger for it mentally too.
What’s one obstacle you’ve hit and how did you overcome it?Not being motivated to get my sweat on or I just want junk food. This is rare for me but when those feelings arise, I embrace them now! Usually a short break and a good burger make me miss the endorphins and before you know it I’m craving clean food and a killer workout and come back to my routine with more motivation than ever! The key for me is to embrace those feelings/cravings and enjoy the moment and move on sans guilt!
We all seem to crave a balanced, healthy lifestyle. How do you go about living that way?For me, it all starts with being kind to myself and letting go of perfectionism! I have gone through phases of my fit journey in the past where I have been too strict and ultimately ended up unhappy because I was too focused on “following dieting rules” and never missing a workout. This past year I have come to realize that happiness and feeling confident is the goal not a certain # on the scale! Your post about “seasons” really hit home with me and this outlook has helped me embrace the seasons in my own life! Another favorite of your is the “eat the damn pizza” post- these two messages really influenced my attitude towards health and fitness in a very positive, empowering way!
How has the LG Accountability Community played a role in your success?Knowing my girls are working out with me and counting on that accountability keeps me motivated for sure!
What advice would you share with a fellow LG Sister looking to get healthier and happier?Take it all one day and one workout at a time! Working out and eating to fuel your bod should be fun and if it’s not keep trying new routines and new foods until you find your groove and what you like!
