LG Sister Spotlight: Erin

The LG Sister Spotlight features community members being inspired by and inspiring others through sharing their real life journeys. This summer, we’ve started a game of LG Sister Spotlight tag. Each spotlighted sister goes onto tag another ladies who has been an inspiration to her.

Last week, Sarah tagged Erin “because she is a babe & I love her!! Even if she hasn’t been on insta for awhile she always makes it a point to leave encouraging comments and support the girls!” I met Erin at last summer’s #LGBoston meet up and I’ve got to say… this girl is AWESOME! BFF goals type of awesome!

Check back next Friday to meet the LG Sister Erin tags! I love these as a way to get to know each other on a deeper level.

LG Sister FAQ
Name: Erin
IG Handle: watchmelift_watchmeweighweigh (sorry, just went private because IG keeps blasting notifications about this account.. wah da heck!)
Age: 28
Location: Boston, MA
Occupation: Technical Recruiter
Hobbies: I grew up on Cape Cod, MA so my favorite place in the entire world is the BEACH! Of course, I love fitness, as well as travel + exploring new places (I love staying in hotels), Home Goods, reading, and spending time with family and friends. Trying to work gardening in there… off to a rocky start.
Meet Erin:
How did you get started with your health and fitness journey?
I have been active and non-stop since I was a baby… Sorry, Mom! Growing up I was always playing multiple sports at a time (volleyball and softball with some baskertball in between), and played DII volleyball in college. Working out was built into my day for at least 3 hours every day for yearssss, so I have almostalways been “fit.” However, in college, I noticed after going abroad and somewhere between the after practice 2nd dinners and offseason that I no longer had the body or metabolism I used to have.. YIKES! Senior year I found portion control through WW, and began eating “healthy-ish”. Fast forward a couple years and I began incorporating weight training into my schedule again vs just cardio and stumbled upon Lauren (where else but Pinterest), started following (/stalking) her page and the rest is history!! I eventually purchased Lauren’s EYWL Book, learned that hummus on a sweet potato roll for lunch was not healthy or nutrient dense (seriously…. can’t make this up!) and since then have been *trying* to stay on track for more than a few months at a time.
How do you balance healthy living and going out/enjoying life?
I tend to be so all or nothing, black or white, that balance is something I struggle with. So, balance for me is a work in progress! My favorite thing to remember is a post Lauren did a year or so back about “embracing life’s seasons.” I feel like I’m constantly in a different season, but I’m working on accepting that and controlling what I can, when I can! I’m social, and have an embarrassing case of FOMO, but if I’m going to go out and enjoy myself my goal is to eat healthy and nutritious before/during/after.
What’s a quick and easy dinner you make?
I did it tonight! If I don’t have time to grocery shop and prep on Sunday, I go Monday after work and pick up a rotisserie chicken. I’ll either cut it up with veggies, or brown rice pasta and broccoli. Tomorrow I will make EYWL BBQ chicken pizza with the other half of it!

Why do you enjoy weight lifting?
Because it is SOO much better than cardio and doing any (what I call) jumping workouts I have done in the past. I seriously dislike those because I have a major ‘tude when I’m doing a workout with several minutes of jumping lunges or squats. So, I do what I enjoy = lifting. I put my heads phones on (usually with no music, just so people don’t talk to me) and the mental release is awesome. It’s probably one of the only times during the day (and likely my sleep) that my brain isn’t going one million miles a second. Not to mention, you are burning calories even when you are done with your workout (and I’m all about multitasking).

How has the LG Accountability Community played a role in your success?
The PEOPLE!! I joined this group a year or two before we got married, but I started getting serious during Fitmas and LGFitandLean (my fav!!). The biggest takeaways are things I still work on today; finding balance (if I have a bad diet day, I no longer say, “I might as well throw the entire week away and start back on Monday,”) limiting guilt, and just being real and have people who support vs. judge you. Girls can be hard on themselves and one another, so this is refreshing!

What advice would you share with a fellow LG Sister looking to get healthier and happier?
First, happiness is YOUR decision! Aside from that, three pieces of advice for kick starting this: 1. I wish I started sooner! Not only for the physical, but the mental benefits! 2. Don’t compare yourself to someone else’s journey (I’m also guilty of comparing myself). Everyone has a different journey and is on a different chapter. 3. Do whatever gets you active and makes you happy. Just get moving! I recently started mixing more CorePowerYoga sculpt classes in and I love it! 4. Don’t wait until Monday!
Quick Favs: (sorry, ladies, I’m too much of an elaborator to have these be quick)
Favorite Quote: “Remember why you started” (I don’t have a fav quote, I just googled this TBH)
Favorite Book: Nightingale
Favorite TV Show: I rarely watch TV. I get so worked up over shows and movies as if it’s my life (my husband loves this),  so when I do it has to be mindless so I can sleep. This makes my go to “trash tv” … BRAVO! Housewives, Million Dollar listing and Saturday morning Food Network.
Favorite Movie: Blow (is this an appropriate forum to say that?)
Favorite Vacation Spot: Anywhere with sunshine and a beach. We just went to Maui and Kauai for our delayed honeymoon in November it was BEAUTIFUL! Still to me nothing compares to where I’m from, Cape Cod.
Favorite Healthy Food: I could eat avo toast (with everything bagel spice), eggs, or fruit for every meal.
Favorite Treat: Nachos, Haribo gummy bears, goldfish or Doritos.
