Tip of the Day: The workout selfie – love it or hate it? It’s been awhile since I posted a workout selfie, but on my blog, I’m pretty sure it’s here to stay! On one side of the coin, people believe that selfies stem from a bit of narcissism and that individuals share these pictures fishing for compliments. Now, I totally get that and partially agree, except it’s such a generalization and does not characterize all selfies, specifically workout selfies.
I view the workout selfie as an accountability check in. When we share these images on social media or with friends, it sets an expectation for ourselves in a positive way. Not to mention…the vast majority of workout selfies are images of sweaty, tired individuals after a workout and are clearly not the best portrayals of that individuals physical beauty; it’s clearly the inner beauty and strength portrayed through the workout selfie!
I encourage you to share your workout selfies. If you’re on Instagram, hashtag your selfies with #LGAccountability so that I and others participating can see and support! If you need someone to blame for uploading the image….blame me…I told you to do it 🙂 Really though, I cannot tell you how much feedback I receive that supports the benefit of staying motivated by checking in 1x per day with what you did to stay active and healthy! Now let’s see those pictures!

    I sick at workout selfies…the angles are all wrong and I just end up looking like a hot mess. Lol…guess I'll work in that but I do think you are right. Both on the narcissism and the accountability.

    Other people's selfies motivate me BIGTIME it's like an instant workout motivation for me! I'll even search them on Pinterest for extra motivation on an particularly lazy day. Needless to say YOUR pics have helped me more times than I can count so big thanks darling!
