Tell us a bit about yourself!
I’m 28 years old, a personal trainer, and newlywed.  My husband and I currently reside in our hometown, small but beautiful town known as Northport which is located in the suburbs of Long Island. I’m a huge family girl and we are lucky enough to live less than two minutes from both of our families.  Since my husband works most weekends, you can usually catch me at my parents house, I love spending anytime I can with my family. I am also a personal trainer who just recently started working at one of our local gyms.  I’m incredibly easy going and get along with pretty much everyone I meet, it’s honestly really hard to make me mad.  If you’re ever in need of a good laugh then I’m your girl, because I’m known to make at least one “blonde” comment at least once a week. Otherwise, I’m a pretty simple girl.  I love to go to the movies, my husband and I go at least twice a month if not more. When i’m not at the movies you can catch me shopping, or just hanging out with my family and girlfriends.

What motivates you to live a healthy, happy, lifestyle?
This is actually a very easy question for me.  During high school and college I was far from the healthy active girl I am today.  While I did play tennis in middle school up until my first year of college, that was the extent of any sort of physical activity I did.  I remember being surrounded by skinny and fit friends and always thinking to myself “I wish I could look like them”.  It wasn’t until I transferred to the University of South Florida my junior year of college (and was so homesick I ended up transferring back home) that I decided I needed to make a change.  Once I came back home, I cut out all fast food and soda.  I then joined a gym and started working out 3-4 times a week.  I mostly would run on the treadmill or go on the elliptical just because I didn’t know any better.  It wasn’t until about four years ago that I really started to master fitness and nutrition. Seven years and 29 pounds later and I can safely say I’m no longer that insecure 21 year old girl. So with all of that being said, my motivation is pretty simple, just looking back at pictures of that 21 year old girl gives me motivation each day to keep going.  I’m not saying that I don’t like the girl that I was back then, but I like who I am today even more.  I’m confident, healthy and so much happier in my own skin and that’s something that I refuse to give up.

How do you handle bumps in the road?
This is something that I have been working really hard on.  Up until a couple of weeks ago, I was the girl who if I had a cheat meal or treat, I would beat myself up about it.  I’ve come to realize that, one cheat meal or treat isn’t going to derail my progress.  If i catch myself starting to feel guilty, I immediately talk myself down.  There’s always going to be bumps in the road, we’re all human it’s bound to happen.  What sets you a part from everyone else is how you handle these bumps.  If I have a bad day, I just start over the next day.  I don’t let one bad day turn into a bad week, or a bad month.  I know that sounds a lot easier said then done, but I tell myself why I started this journey in the first place and it gives me that extra push I need to keep going.

How has the LG community played a role in your journey?
This past July I was lucky enough to stumble upon Lauren and this amazing community, and I haven’t been the same since. First of all, Lauren you not only taught me how to feel more confident in the gym, but you also taught me that weights & lifting can be your best friend.  I truly can’t ever thank you enough for everything that you do for not only me but the rest of the LG community, you inspire me each and every day.  Secondly, I would be lost without all of my LG sisters.  There is nothing more that I look forward to then seeing everyone’s post’s each day and all the progress that they are making with their own journey’s.  I have never met a more supportive, beautiful, inspiring group of girls then the ones in this community.  There has been more then one occasion where I was having an off day and just didn’t feel like working out, all I had to do is see how everyone else was getting their workouts in and it motivated me to get moving! It’s a great feeling to be a part of a community where everyone is working towards the same goal, obtaining a healthy, fit lifestyle.   Despite the fact, that we’ve never actually met in person, I really feel like I’ve gained lifelong girlfriends and for that I’ll always be grateful.

What would you say to someone looking to get healthier this upcoming year?
Make a plan and dive right in.  The hardest part is always getting started, but once you do it becomes routine.  The most important thing is to find something that works for you, whether it be joining a gym, signing up for fitness classes at a local studio, or even joining this amazing community. Once you find your niche, it’ll be easier to stick to your goals. Another way to make it more fun, get a friend or family member to join with you.  There’s nothing better then having someone close to you be your accountability partner.  The last piece of advice I’ll leave you with is this, “never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game” (yes that is a Cinderella story reference).  Will you have bad days? Yes, everyone does.  Don’t let those potential bad days prevent you from achieving your goals.
