When I first began working out, I was truly fearful of changing the way my body looked. Sure I wanted to “lose weight” and get “skinnier,” but I really had no clue as to what that physically looked like or how to exactly achieve it. I stuck to the cardio equipment and did basic ab exercises because that was safe to me. The more I educated myself, the more I began to love weight training, and the more I realized how amazing it is to literally build your body. I’m not much of an artistic person, but it’s pretty darn awesome as to how through fitness you are the creator and your body is your canvas.

Tip of the Day: My Friday Fact! I’m kind of, sort of a bossy person. I am the oldest sibling, the oldest cousin on one side of my family, and was the oldest in my neighborhood group growing up, which is where I think my bossy-ness was cultivated. In elementary school, I can recall getting in trouble for this personality trait of mine. I heard Sheryl Sandberg, author of “Lean In,’ share in an interview that we should stop telling children they are bossy, rather tell them they are displaying qualities of a leader. I’ve worked really hard on turning a trait of bossy into one of positive leadership. It is a trait I wish I would have worked on improving earlier because I have found it to infuse into so many aspects of my life, such as strength in relationships, confidence in my work, satisfaction with myself, and so many other wonderful things. In the words of E. M. Kelly, “remember the difference between a boss and a leader: a boss says “go” a leader says “let’s go.” It’s a goal of mine to encourage others to become true leaders in their own lives.

What does your typical workout week look like? I am still struggling with finding a good balance between lifting and cardio. To be honest- I haven't done any cardio in about a month. Only lifting heavy! I ran a half marathon last year at this time and I got burnt out on running after that!
