Cardio Day – 3/22

Cardio Day (elliptical):
-5min slower pace (warm up)
-30min steady state (HR – 150ish bpm)
-5min slower pace (cool down)

TIP OF THE DAY: Okay… I’ll admit it… I’m one of those people who “looks down upon” the elliptical. I’ve giggled and agreed with those quotes like “if it were easy, it would be called an elliptical” – haha, still do 😉 HOWEVER, with time, I’ve grown to appreciate the elliptical. For those of you who are on more intense workout regimens (heavy lifting, active rest days, etc.), you may find yourself feeling like your lower body is getting very little rest. I do take an all out rest day occasionally when I feel that my body really needs it, but most rest days are “active,” meaning that I do cardio, but do not lift. The elliptical has been helping me achieve a steady state cardio workout, yet, allowing my legs to feel more rested as compared to running/walking. Never underestimate rest – your body may actually benefit more from a rest day than a workout! I believe the elliptical gets so much heat because it can become a very passive movement if you are not putting in effort – you can easily go through the motions without exerting much work. Therefore, be sure to make this an active workout! Plus, I’m loving the rest the elliptical gives my joints; running has taken quite a toll!

In my defense – I got dressed in the dark & clearly wanted to bring my own sunshine to the gym 😉
