TOP 10 FITNESS GADGETS

TOP 10 FITNESS GADGETS

I had quite the “Fitsmas” this year; Santa’s elves must have been watching me well as a lot of health & fitness gadgets appeared under my tree, which inspired me to post on what I consider to be the top 10 fitness gadgets. Keep in mind, NONE of these are required in order to achieve and healthy & fit life/body; instead, these are items that may enhance or make that journey a little bit easier and more enjoyable!

1) FOOD SCALE
A food scale is something that will undoubtedly help you with your diet/food prep. When counting calories and tracking macros, weighing out your food is extremely important in determining exactly what you’re ingesting. This is especially important when weighing out meat as the weight of cooked foods is often different than uncooked weights.

2) BEATS HEADPHONES
For those who love music to get them pumped up and in the workout zone, these headphones are a MUST! The Beats Solo headphones are what I received, and are the perfect mix of excellent sound quality, killer base, and comfort; they are not too big and actually stay on your head rather well, which is something I was initially worried about! I’ve only had these for a couple workouts, but I could do cardio for hours with these babies!

Beats Solo Headphones – $200

3) LIFTING GLOVES
Lifting gloves are a great way to prevent the calluses that come from weight training! It is important to find gloves that fit – gloves that are too big can become bunchy during workouts and gloves that are too small become very uncomfortable. My favorite gloves are Femme Fitale – leopard & my new ones are even pink with Swarovski crystals! Tons of great colors to choose from!

Femme Fitale Workout Gloves – $25

4) PERSONALIZED GEAR
I’m all about standing out from the crowd, and personalized fitness gear is a great way to achieve that! Monogramming is a cute way to personalize anything from gym bags to waterbottles to yoga mats. This is my new monogrammed yoga mat in fun colors, which will make my yoga workouts all that more exciting! Some websites offer monogramming when you purchase items, otherwise embroidering stores located locally can provide similar services!

5) LULULEMON APPAREL
We all have different weaknesses – mine is lululemon. Yes, the apparel is pricey, but if it’s in your budget, I highly recommend it! I love tight-fitting clothing, and my lulu gear always makes me feel as if I’m wearing weightless clothing. Plus, the fun colors, patterns, and cut-outs are oh so cute for the gym and bumming around!

Lululemon – prices vary

6) IPOD SHUFFLE
Priced at just $49, the iPod shuffle is a great go-to to get away from listening to music on your cellphone or larger iPod! Some may be hesitant to buy due to the lack of a screen, but think of the shuffle-only option as a distraction detractor; without the thoughts of what song to play next, your workouts will be fueled with focus and drive! Plus, the shuffle clips right onto your clothing: comfort & convenience!

iPod Shuffle – 2 GB – $49

7) KITCHEN TOOLS
A slow cooker and a food processor are two great kitchen tools to assist in meal prep. A slow cooker is a great way to cook your chicken – just throw it in there with a few spices & let it sit throughout the day for a healthy and delicious meal. My favorite add ins are low sodium salsa and Mrs. Dash salt free seasonings. My food processor is my newest kitchen tool, and I am excited to whip up lots of healthy creations with it!

Cuisinart Mini-Prep Plus Processor – $40
Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker – $30

8) RUMBLE ROLLER
A little bit more than the average foam roller, the “rumble roller” works to relieve muscles on a deeper level than the superficial work done by the traditional foam roller. The rumble roller has a unique design featuring flexible bumps, designed to provide the muscle relief of a deep tissue massage and restore flexability. The rumble rollers are available in two sizes and two levels of firmness. It even comes with a diagrams on how to roll out your muscles!

Large Size Rumble Roller – $74.99
Compact Size Rumble Roller – $44.99

9) BLENDER BOTTLE
A shaker bottle is so necessary for all you supplement junkies. Traditional waterbottles are meant to hold water, and mixing supplements in them along with trying to clean the supplements out of them becomes quite tricky. The blender bottle is my favorite shaker; it’s inexpensive, comes in cute colors (favorite is pink & lime green), and comes with a blender ball for mixing supplements more efficiently. A shaker bottle can be judged by the strength of the cap, and the blender bottle is created with quality!

Blender bottle – $8

10) POLAR FT4 HEART RATE MONITOR
Not a Christmas present; I’ve had my heart rate monitor for some time now – I go in phases where I use it regularly and weeks where I go without it. I highly recommend the Polar heart rate monitor; it provides information such as heart rate, calories burned, duration of workout, etc. The greatest feature is the instantaneous HR readings: useful when trying to stay in a particular zone during training! I have the more popular FT4 model; but for those interested in the FT7 model, the only difference is that it distinguishes the fat calories burned, which I personally don’t find to be a feature of importance. Both are priced reasonably, come with an adjustable chest strap for readings, and are built to last! If you are worried about the chest strap being uncomfortable… give it a try; I promise that after a week or so of wearing it, you will forget it’s even there!

Polar FT4 (I recommend this model over the FT7)
