1 Hashtag I Regret Using the Most: #NoExcuses

This is the 1 worst hashtag I used to use. And by “use” I mean… I had this hashtag on repeat. Speaking of hashtags #NoRegrets I guess I shouldn’t I regret using this hashtag… you just won’t ever catch me using it again. My mindset is so much different now as compared to when I used this hashtag. Dare I say… it’s a much “healthier” mindset now.

So, what is the hashtag I’ll never use again…

WHAT #NoExcuses MEANS
It was only a few short years ago that I was hashtagging #NoExcuses on all my gym and food photos. #NoExcuses means that nothing will stop you from doing x, y and z; further, it’s the idea that there is no good reason for you not to do something.
In a health and fitness context (the way I was using this hashtag), this implied there was no excuse for:

  • skipping a workout
  • not meal prepping
  • eating a treat
  • feeling crappy
  • having a bad day

….what?!?!
Do you want to know the saddest part? I think I actually believed this.
MY SASSY RESPONSE TO THOSE WHO STILL BELIEVE IN #NoExcuses
First thought – get real, girl! I am going to assume all responsibility for using this hashtag and believing in such a silly concept. When I looked into what influences I had during my #NoExcuses phase of life, I realized all of the “fitspos” I followed promote the twisted idea too. Sadly enough, some still do.
What I would really like to tell those who live their life this way aka what I would tell my old self…
Get some new priorities. Gain a fresh perspective. Life is more than meal prepping, calories and cardio.
In today’s world we all have a following. We all have people who look to us as leaders whether that means your 234 Instagram followers, 18 co-workers or your 2 children. Whatever ideas we are living by are being sent as messages to those around us.
To those who think of a bite of dark chocolate once per week as a treat meal, I love you but your approach just isn’t for me.
To those who believe in doing 2 workouts+ per day every day as a norm… more power to you but that’s not my style.
I like to celebrate women who believe in balance.
I LIKE women who make excuses. Good ones.

MY SHIFT AWAY FROM #NoExcuses
Don’t get me wrong, I still dedicate myself to living a healthy lifestyle. I feel my best when I workout daily. I find my body feels energized and light when I eat nutrient-dense, portioned meals.
Butttt, I now know it’s okay perfectly acceptable to make excuses!
To me that means knowing exactly when an excuse is a good reason. I feel like the “excuse” is a negative twist to the word “reason.”
What’s your excuse for not working out? What is the reason you didn’t make it to the gym? In my mind, an excuse becomes a reason when the reason aligns with your priorities.
MY TOP 3 “EXCUSES” + WHY THEY ARE OKAY
Excuses… reasons… whatever… when two of my priorities go head to head, it’s never a loss in my book. It’s not about an excuse or a reason. It’s just life. Here are 3 of my top priorities that turn excuses into reasons as to why it’s okay that I don’t do something else.
1. FAMILY
Family (& friends) has always been my top priority in life. This year, I became a mom and that really openend my eyes to the most wonderful excuse. The day my baby had his first shots, I wanted to be with him from morning till night. Could I have made time for a workout before his dr appt?! Absolutely but I made an excuse chose to be with him instead. And I’m so happy I did!
2. SERVICE
Service to me is just “doing good in life” whether that’s helping a neighbor or grandparent, attending a church service, or doing work you’re passionate about. There have been many nights that I’m working on something on my blog or finalizing a new plan instead of meal prepping: a great excuse in my book.
3. SELF CARE
Perhaps my favorite of all. Sometimes you’ve just got to know what’s good for you. There are days I want to relax at home over going to the grocery store or getting in a lift. Do I feel bad about it? Do I consider it an excuse as to why I didn’t workout? No! I did what was best for me in that moment.

THE HASHTAG I’M NOW USING INSTEAD OF #NoExcuses
I really wanted to share this post because we are all health and fitness enthusiasts. We all follow other fitness professionals, fitness motivators, etc. and while I can’t control all that is shared out there, I can remind you that excuses and balance are perfectly perfect.
If you have to pause, if you have to restart, if you have to make excuses today or any day, don’t sweat it!
#BALANCE

I shared a few posts back that Anthony and I bought a new camera. It’s the Canon G7X Mark II <- I have no idea what that means but I was asked to share the camera details. I really want to learn how to use the camera to its full potential so we’ve been enjoying doing mini photo shoots right in our home.

I thought this post was the perfect one to share some snaps of our little love, Leo!
