5 Unusual Ways to Push Yourself that You'll Enjoy Trying

“It doesn’t get easier. You just get stronger.”

It’s the last week of the LG Sisters Get Strong Plan and in honor of finishing strong this final week, I thought I would share some unusual ways to push yourself. “LG, the plan is pushing me enough” -I’m hearing those thoughts already lol. I’m sharing usual ways to challenge yourself and as you’ll see, these 5 things aren’t about “more” rather “different.” I don’t know about you, but if I’m not constantly shaking things up, I’m not mentally engaged, so I hope these things help you enjoy this final week and lots of weeks in your fitness journey!
(1) EAT OUT: yes, we are all trying to eat foods that are tasty while being beneficial for our bodies. Don’t fall into the trap that all of that means you can’t eat out at restaurants. Push that mental barrier by going to a restaurant and ordering something that is nutritious. You’ll enjoy the meal all while feeling accomplished. Get addicted to the habits of being healthy and happy… simultaneously!
(2) NEW ENVIRONMENT: speaking of habits, how easy is it to fall into the habits of doing the same thing in the same place. We workout in the same place in our home on the daily. We’ve belonged to the same gym for 3 years. We get our morning coffee at the same coffee shop day after day. We read our book in bed every night. Why not switch up the environment?! A new environment invites a fresh perspective. Simply sipping on your morning cup of Joe on your patio instead of at the kitchen counter or lifting weights outside instead of at the gym or in your home gym can get new juices flowing.
(3) FINANCIAL INVESTMENT: Financial investments are the ones we seem to consider the more serious investments. We have no problem investing our time into 26 hours of a weekend Netflix binge, but if someone asked us to invest $100 into something, we’d take a bit to think about it. Right?! (Side note – I’m pointing all fingers at myself for that 26 hour Netflix binge haha… darn Prison Break) Put some money into your health and fitness game. It can be an investment into a new pair of quality running shoes, overly-priced black leggings that make you feel like a million bucks or throwing a few dollars into a jar every time your workout then treating yourself at the end of the week or month. It doesn’t have to be a lot, but even a little money on the line provides lots of motivation.
(4) TEST YOURSELF: this is usual in that we don’t think to do this often. Test yourself physically every now and then. See how long it takes you to run a mile. Check how many push ups you can complete until failure. Test your squat or deadlift 5 rep max. Anything you want to test, do it! Your physical strength will likely surprise you.
(5) DO YOU DIFFERENTLY: our every day routine is something we set up intentionally. Habits actually require less energy… it’s our natural instinct to expend as little energy as possible. If we intentionally lead our daily lives the slightest bit different each day, we can feel reinvigorated. My husband always encourages me to take a different route to the same places we typically go. He’s literally always chirping this at me and it seems silly, but it’s lead to a lot of usually fun things and good feelings.
