Do LESS of This to Get MORE Out of Your Fitness Plan

Tomorrow, Monday, February 6th, we are kicking off the LG Sisters Get Strong Plan + Challenge. If you’re reading this in preparation, woohoo! If you haven’t yet joined in, there’s still time and I included some details at the bottom of this post, so you can scroll down for those.

Likely, you’ve been in this place before… you’re about to start a new fitness plan and/or meal plan. If you’re like many of the women I speak with, you know that the typical pattern is that you stick with something for 2-3 weeks then slowly wander off. Well, I want this plan to be different for you, so I’ve put together some things I want you to actually do less of in order to get more out of the LG Sisters Get Strong Plan. And, if this is your first time starting a fitness plan… great! You’re going to do it the “right” way, the first time (and by “right,” I mean right for you).

Let’s dive right in….

Do LESS of This to Get MORE out of the Plan

PLANNING: They say failing to plan is planning to fail. I agree. I loveeee planning. Planning is important because a few minutes of time spent planning ahead can save a lot of time and stress in the long run. Still, over-planning is an addiction many of us seem to have. In a world of more is better, we try to plan every last detail. If you’ve tried that approach, you know it’s exhausting. While I encourage you plan, resist the urge to plan absolutely everything. Leave a little wiggle room to go with the flow for an enjoyable experience!

What I Like to Plan:
(1) Priorities + Goals
Have you ever heard of a home builder starting construction on a home before creating the blueprint?! Never. Similarly, we need to know where we are heading and where we want to go. I highly encourage you to use the Self Assessment + Prioritized Goal Setting pages in the LG Sisters Get Strong Plan before beginning. If that’s not your speed, try setting 2-3 simple goals for yourself during the plan.
(2) Workout Attire
If your day calls for a workout early in the AM or right after work, putting together your workout clothing and any necessary accessories the night prior is pretty stinkin’ helpful
(3) Workout Times
I call these “LG Gym Dates” – think of your workout like an appointment or lunch date with me. I look at my planner and ink in when a 45-ish minute workout will fit into my schedule each day; typically, I can plan for 3 days or so but even planning this the night before is super beneficial
(4) Meals
Meal planning is crucial to ensuring you have meals on hand that will help get you closer to your goals. It can be as simple as opening up the LG Meal Plan or your Pinterest account, picking 5 meals to make for the week and grocery shopping for any necessary items
(4) Outside Activities
If we are only focused on fitness and meals, this isn’t going to be a plan that is “different” from the rest. I’m going to encourage you to look at your priorities and plan a few things this week that align with what you need in your life outside of the gym and kitchen… a phone call with your girlfriend, a date night with your love, an extra church service, a bubble bath, etc.
PREPPING: Speaking of meals, you may hear many health and fitness figures telling you Sundays are for meal prep and you need to think about the entire week. Sometimes that is helpful. But, often, for me, it’s overwhelming and by the end of the week, I’m sick of those meals. So, I like to do less of a big prep but focus on a few specific things.
What I Like to Prep:
(1) Protein
Prepping protein saves so much time throughout the week. I typically select 2-3 protein options, such as chicken, all natural, lean ground beef or ground turkey and eggs. Then, I prep them different ways. For example: I’ll hard boil the eggs, cook 1/2 the ground meet with chili powder to be used in tacos and on taco salads while the other 1/2 I cook as burger patties, and put the chicken on the grill, leaving 1/2 plain and using a natural BBQ sauce on the other half. (1-1.5 hours here gives me many assembly-only meals all week)
(2) Fruits/Veggies
I just wash + chop a bunch of fruits and vegetable and store them in containers. I can easily saute them to use in my meals, eat them fresh (with hummus is my current fav!) or assemble them into any of the meals. Having pre-cut fruit and vegetables saves more time than you’d think
(3) Meals Out of the Home
It’s helpful to assemble meals you need outside of the home the night prior. The night prior, I put together a full meal in a lunch box and take that if I’m working outside of my home office

TALKING: Possibly some odd advice… but do less talking and more doing with this fitness plan. When you’re excited about something, you love to chat about it. And go for it… jump into the #LGAccountability on Instagram to chat with your LG Sisters, tell your mom about your new goals, invite a friend to join you. But… resist the urge to talk and focus too much on this plan. I’ve found the more we can also include thinking and talking about other things as well (work, relationships, holidays, movies, books, current events, weekend plans, etc.), the more a fitness plan simply becomes part of our lifestyle instead of serving as a fad.
STRESSING: worried you’re not doing the exercise correctly? thinking you maybe did one too many sets? concerned your muscle definition isn’t as defined as Susie Q’s? Let it go! Overthinking robs us of the fun. I want this plan to be fun for you so that you enjoy it, stick with it and make it a lifestyle. You’re not doing anything wrong… you’re doing it exactly as what’s best for you! No stress!

What do you think of that? Do LESS to get MORE out of this plan. I believe in you, girl! I know you are so powerful and capable and I cannot wait to watch you flourish these next 5 weeks and beyond.

Here we go….
