Workout Wednesday Tip: One topic I see a lot is how a particular workout affects the diet. So, for instance, you may see advice like “lower calories/carbs on days off” or “have a treat meal on a big weight training day, such as leg day” – both of those tips are ones I agree with, but I want to explain why it’s beneficial! GLYCOGEN! Glycogen is the body’s stored form of carbohydrates. After consuming carbs, they’re either utilized immediately in body processes or stored as glycogen to be used as fuel at a later time. Muscle glycogen, specifically, is converted into glucose by muscle cells. Therefore, optimizing glycogen stores is important for energy levels and fat burning. On lighter days, such as cardio or rest days, our bodies do not utilize as much energy as they would on a heavier weight training day, so going a little lighter on the carbohydrates may be wise. On the other hand, during a weight training workout, our bodies deplete the glycogen stores to provide us with energy, so there’s a little more wiggle room to make space for treats. For this reason, I strategically place treat meals on days where I know I’m going to kill it in the gym (i.e: Lower Body Strength Training….tomorrow 🙂

You do look so happy while doing these!

Haha…when photographing them, yes. When actually working out doing them, it's painful lol

    Hi Lauren,
Do we complete the kettlebell swings 3 times per side during each of the 6 sets of the circuit, for a total of 18 times per side? Or do we just do it 6 times per side, once per circuit? Just wanted to make sure before I went bananas with it! Thanks!

    • Sierra Eldredge

You'll do it 6 times on each side 3 times then move on to the next one which is the sprint and then to the jumps and then back to the kettle ball swings 🙂

    • Sierra Eldredge

Sorry.. 10 TIMES on each side. So a total of 20

    • Fitness Barbie

I'm SO sorry for the confusion….it should not have said sets! Just 10 reps (each side) then go for sprints. Once you've completed the jumps, kettle bell swings & sprints for one round, repeat for an additional 5 (total of 6 rounds)

The cardio portion only took me about 5 mins to complete- we just go through it once, correct?

    • Sierra Eldredge

      Six rounds of cardio 🙂

    • Fitness Barbie

So sorry…it's 6 rounds! Ah! Difficult but worth it!

3 sets of 20 reps each X 6= 360 crunches :O Is this how it is supposed to be?

    • Sierra Eldredge

The x6 is for the cardio, just the 3 sets of 20 on the abs 🙂 if you save the pictures of the workouts it separates them into cardio and abs

    • Fitness Barbie

Sorry for the confusion. The 6 rounds is just for the cardio. Thank you for the help, Sierra! I appreciate ya 🙂 XO
