Tip of the Day: I had every intention of sharing a brand new, totally killer HIIT cardio full-length workout video with you today that I’ve been perfecting for the past week. However, during yesterday’s workout, I tweaked my back, causing some serious pain along my spine Despite Anthony’s advice, I tried to go ahead and film the workout and as you can tell, it didn’t work out. Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! So, I’m thinking I can make the most of it by sharing how I personally handle injuries. First off, I could tell that when I tweaked my back, it wasn’t so serious that it required immediate medical attention. Still, I immediately stopped my workout to prevent further injury. I went home and took arnica ((I first discovered this when I had my wisdom teeth removed…it’s great for reducing inflammation)) Then, I made an appointment with a chiropractor for later in the week; I’ve seen plenty of physicians for this ((unfortunately, back pain isn’t totally new for me)) and the push of muscle relaxers and pain killers for my symptoms just isn’t the route I’m going for. I’ve had great luck with chiropractors who take a holistic approach and don’t just crack and snap, but really try to address to root of the issue. I’ve also heard great things about acupuncture, but I have yet to try! Until I see the chiropractor, I will be taking it easy. Because cardio actually keeps me feeling loose, I’ll be doing LISS (low intensity steady state) cardio but refraining from lifting. Also, when I experience an injury, I really focus on my diet. With weight training workouts, we utilize the calories and carbohydrates we ingest, so on off days, our bodies don’t require as much since there is a decreased energy expenditure. So the snacking that sometimes happens in between meals…I’ll be trying my very best to limit that. Fingers crossed that I wake up pain-free and can film that workout for you tomorrow!

I hope your back is feeling better soon. Injuries are always frustrating.

    Are we not stretching anymore?

When I can get into a stretch ((hopefully today)), I will start them again!

Oh dear!! I am feeling your pain! Over the weekend of the fourth I experienced a pretty substantial injury (my face lol). I am now not medically allowed to do the workout I love most, my runs. I have been laying low but think I will soon try some low intensity stuff. Like you though, I have been focusing on what goes into my body instead, especially since my injury calls for a special diet (yay for juices and milkshakes!). I hope you get relief soon! Injuries are no fun!
