Body & Bliss Pledge

BODY

Theory: REST! You know the importance of rest for anyone, but especially a health and fitness enthusiast. Did you know a complete rest is a critical part of HIIT cardio? For starters, HIIT cardio refers to high intensity interval training and it first came out as an alternative to long, steady state cardio sessions, such as long distance running. The top two benefits of HIIT are 1) You can burn the same amount of calories in a 20-30 minute HIIT session as you do in a steady state cardio session twice as long and 2) you stimulate EPOC aka the afterburn in which you continue to burn calories for up to 24 hours following the workout. The key thing to remember is that the foundation of HIIT and the means to achieving theses benefits follow a pattern of: intense interval followed by complete rest to recover so that you can work to maximum intensity during the work interval.

Practice: In today’s workout both in Fit For Life and Total Body Transformation, there is a complete rest. Make the most of these rest intervals. Quickly get yourself into child’s pose (if you’re doing Fit For Life) or simply turn inward (if you’re doing Total Body Transformation) and for the 30 seconds of complete rest, I challenge you to breath deeply and in your mind, visualize what your goal body looks like on you and the feelings you want to experience on a daily basis. Then, hop back into the intense interval!

BLISS
Theory: You’re just one thought away from bliss and happiness. Isn’t that an amazing feeling?? No matter what our current state of mind, we are just ONE thought away from feeling happy! Hold onto that because it can help us feel in control of our happiness; happiness is a choice and it’s chosen by the thoughts we think. The best way to switch out of a negative mindset and into one that brings joy and happiness is to identify our happy triggers. Happy triggers are things we can go to to stimulate positive thoughts.

Practice: Identify your happy triggers so you can call on them when you hit a mental roadblock. For instance, recollecting a really happy memory and staying in that moment
can shift your thinking. My go-to happy trigger is YouTube. I cannot get
enough of news bloopers and funny baby videos. Today, when you find your thoughts on a negative frequency, call on one of your happy triggers and in one thought, switch back over to the positive side!
