Healthy McDonald's Shamrock Shake Alternative: Mint Smoothie Recipe

If you know me or you keep up with my social media pages, you know that I’m a total McDonald’s shamrock shake diehard. If you haven’t tried a “shammie” as I love to call them, you’re seriously missing out! They’re only available for a limited time over St. Patrick’s day, and the only reason I don’t go through the drive through everyday for one is…wah wah wah…they’re pretty unhealthy!
 
Now, you know I’m all about moderation and part of my meal plan includes a few treat meals per week, so if you’re enjoying a shammie for that, by all means, go for the real deal! BUT, my shammie cravings kick in about every night in the month of March, so I’ve done my best to recreate a completely healthy version.
 
While there is no true substitute for a shammie, in my opinion, this mint smoothie recipe is pretty close to taste perfection! Plus, it’s so refreshing – I can totally see myself enjoying outside on the patio on a sunny day! I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do!
Ingredients:
-1 cup ice
-1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
-1/2 cup vanilla Greek yogurt
-1/2 avocado
-1/2 banana
-1 tbsp/2 packets stevia or other sugar substitute
-1/8 tsp mint extract or ~10 fresh mint leaves
 
Optional:
-1 tbsp dark chocolate chips (thin mint smoothie, anyone?)
 
NOTE: mint extract will yield a closer taste to a shamrock shake, while adding the mint leaves is a more natural option and produces a slightly “earthy” taste – green juice lovers you know what I mean
 
Instructions:
(1) In a blender, combine all ingredients
(2) Blend well until a smooth, creamy consistency is reached (this may take longer if you’re using fresh mint leaves)
(3) If including dark chocolate chips, stir in after blending
