Tip of the Day: Always begin at the level you feel most comfortable. I share this tip as it relates to today’s workout, but it can be applied in a broader sense to health and fitness in general. Jumping rope may seem like an advanced cardio option. Well, initially, it seems like a kindergartener’s toy, then after you try jumping rope, you realize the cardiovascular endurance and finesse required to successfully jump rope. If it’s too much for you, begin basic: jump rope without the rope! Go through the motions, pretending you’re holding the rope and jumping with each rotation. It is still awesome cardio, and you can work your way up to using the actual rope as you feel more comfortable. Applying this in a broader sense, always begin where you feel most comfortable then begin challenging yourself. You do not need to feel compelled to add heavy weight to the bar just because you’ve been told to “lift heavy” as you’ll risk getting injured. Similarly, you do not need to feel obligated to cut out soda 100% because you’ve been told it’s bad for you. Start basic, such as just using the bar (a typical olympic bar is 45lbs – that’s a challenge!) or cutting out soda during just the weekdays. There are no rules to healthy living, so do what works for you!
